Europa Point FC - a progressive club from Gibraltar

WE LOSE AND WIN IN FOOTBALL TOGETHER, WE WORK HARD AND BELIeVE TOGETHER”

PÄR MAGNUS ROOS – HEAD OF FOOTBALL

Our history

The club was founded in 2014 by John Gontier amidst the growing interest in association football on the territory of Gibraltar. The club held trials specifically aimed at bringing in youth team players that had been released by professional sides in England and Spain, with the goal of getting them back into competitive football — Gontier having formerly worked with such players while at League Football Education. Before their maiden season, the club announced a partnership with Chesterfield in League One, granting the English side first option on any Europa Point player. After a strong debut campaign the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Gibraltar Premier Division despite recording the best goalscoring record in the league. The season ended with silverware all the same, as Europa Point beat the already-promoted Angles 5–3 in the Gibraltar Division 2 Cup Final.

In the 2015/16 season Europa Point were crowned champions of the Gibraltar Second Division after an unbeaten league campaign (W17 D5 L0) and completed the double by retaining the Gibraltar Division 2 Cup. Despite the success of the previous season and the signing of many new players — including ex-Norwich City players George Jermy and Tom Walters — Europa Point were relegated back to Division 2 the following year.

In 2017, it was announced that an American consortium headed by Peter Grieve and Corey Woolfolk had purchased a controlling stake in Europa Point. Woolfolk took over as chairman of the club, while John Gontier moved to CEO. As part of the takeover, Europa Point became a partner club to Bantu Rovers in Zimbabwe. Gontier negotiated to re-take control of the club in early 2019, helping the club to a second-place finish in the league.

In the inaugural season of the newly formed Gibraltar National League, Europa Point started poorly under former Gibraltar national football team manager Allen Bula. However, the appointment of ex-Leyton Orient boss Ian Hendon in late November 2019 saw a significant upturn in results, only for the season to be voided by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In July 2020, Andrew Pritchard purchased a majority stake in the club, while John Gontier stayed on as minority shareholder. Following the end of the 2020–21 season, Gontier sold his remaining stake in the club to focus on Gibraltar Women's Football League side Gibraltar Wave. In November 2021, former Charlton Athletic player and Kemi City chairman Mark Tivey was announced as the club's new co-owner and technical director. However, this ownership was short lived and in July 2022, a Swedish consortium led by Pär Magnus Roos took over the club.

Backed by Pär Magnus Roos and a Swedish consortium, the club entered a new era of investment. Modern technical solutions were adopted, new staff and players were recruited, and a youth pathway was established through a partnership with Calpe City FC. The 2022/23 season — the first full campaign under the new ownership — was always going to be a transitional one. Managed by Garry Lowe, the club finished 10th in the Gibraltar Football League and fell at the first round of the Rock Cup. Top scorer was left winger Kegan Caull with 4 goals. The experience of that campaign, however, laid the groundwork for what was to come.

The 2023/24 season marked a watershed moment in the club's history. Under manager Dalibor Savic, Europa Point put together their most competitive league campaign to date, finishing 5th in the Gibraltar Football League — an improvement of five places on the previous season — and narrowly missing out on the coveted European qualification places. The attacking midfield maestro Hugo Jesslén was nothing short of extraordinary, finishing as the standout performer and league top goalscorer with 15 goals — by far the highest individual tally in the club's history. Behind him, centre-back Johan Andersson chipped in with 4 goals and some big performances. In the assists chart, central midfielder Thomas Drage led the way with 5, followed by Kegan Caull with 4, while Jesslén, Andersson, and right-back Martin Falkeborn each contributed 2. The club also reached the Championship Group stage of the cup competitions. Though Jesslén, Andersson, and several key contributors departed at season's end, the 23/24 campaign set a new benchmark for what Europa Point FC could achieve.

The 2024/25 season proved the most turbulent in the club's recent history. Losing the goals and creativity of Hugo Jesslén and Johan Andersson left a considerable void, and the squad was substantially reshaped with free transfer arrivals including striker Adam Gracia, goalkeeper Norris Solange Paulo, and midfielder Rafi Emrani. Three managers took charge during the campaign: Roberto Carrasco began the season in June 2024 but departed in October after just 5 matches (W0 D1 L4). Martin Falkeborn — the club's long-serving right-back — stepped up into the dugout from October 2024 to January 2025, guiding the side through 11 games (W0 D2 L9). Brandon Mora then came in on an interim basis. The instability showed on the pitch: Europa Point finished 11th in the Gibraltar Football League with a points-per-match average of just 0.19 across 21 games, and exited the Rock Cup in the first round. Despite the difficult campaign, centre-forward Adam Gracia finished as top scorer with 3 goals, while Martin Falkeborn led the assists chart with 2.

With stability restored in the dugout under new manager Claudio Racino, appointed in August 2025, the 2025/26 season showed clear signs of a club finding its footing again. A thoroughly rebuilt squad — featuring free-transfer arrivals including centre-back Adam Achhoud, striker Mark Chichon, midfielder Harvey Welch, and centre-back Jayron Negron — brought fresh energy to Europa Point Stadium. The season's standout performer was Portuguese left winger Nuno Miguel, who announced himself to the Gibraltar football world with a stunning 11 goals in 22 appearances, complemented by 4 assists. Attacking midfielder Ronald Lombaya was equally influential, contributing 3 goals and a league-leading 7 assists to cement himself as the creative heartbeat of the side. Central midfielder Johannes Layton added 3 goals and 4 assists, while centre-forward Dante Holmqvist Lugo weighed in with 5 goals and 4 assists. Europa Point finished 8th in the Gibraltar Football League — a vast improvement on the previous campaign — and while the club still has considerable ground to close on the league's upper echelons, the performances of Nuno Miguel, Lombaya, and the newly assembled squad have rekindled genuine optimism that the heights of 2023/24 are once again within reach.
