EUROPA Point return to League action for the first time since mid-November on Thursday evening as we take on Bruno’s Magpies (kick-off 6.15pm).
Following the demise of Angels FC, we now sit top of the second division table, undefeated in our seven League games so far.
There have been a number of new faces join the squad in readiness for the battles ahead, including four Gibraltarian players from reigning Premier Division Champions, Europa FC.
One of these is defender, Stefan Oliva, who is relishing the prospect of playing regular football.
“I am pleased to have joined Europa Point,” he said. “This is an extremely talented team and I am looking forward to pitting my wits in what is a strong second division this season.
“This level has improved in a very big way this year and it was very easy to convince me to come here because I know that it is a competitive and entertaining League that will help me develop and progress as a player.”
So what qualities does the 25 year-old feel that he will bring to the team?
“I am a very positive player who has higher level experience,” he added. “I can also play in a couple of different positions; centre back is my preferred role, but I can also play at full-back when required.”
Oliva spend two seasons with Lions and then had another couple of years with Red Imps before making the move to Europa FC where he spent a season and-a-half, helping them secure the Premier Division title last term.
He is now ready to play his part in our push for promotion back into the top-flight.
“It felt very good being back on the pitch for 90 minutes against FC Olympique last week,” he went on. “Obviously it was disappointing to concede a late equaliser and then eventually go out of the Rock Cup on penalties, but it was an entertaining game with plenty of quality on show from both teams.
“Now we have to focus our attention on the League and getting promotion. This is where it all begins for us and we are ready to go out there and give it our all on Thursday.
“Bruno’s will be tough opponents, they all are in this League, but we are looking forward to battling it out for those three points.”
Come and show your support! The action gets underway on the new Victoria Stadium surface at 6.15pm.
