A Stepping Stone Club

BRETT Jacobs has agreed to join Europa Point FC as Technical Consultant and Scouting Liaison with immediate effect.

He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in coaching education and player development.

An A Licensed coach, he hails from the United States where he is currently a national staff instructor for the US Soccer Federation.

Jacobs has over 25 years of domestic and international coaching experience at both professional and academy levels. For the past four seasons he has served as a broadcast analyst for the Portland Timbers and was Under 23 Head Coach in 2016.

Prior to his tenure in Oregon, Jacobs spent four years with the Colorado Rapids of the Major League Soccer, winning the MLS Cup in 2010.

Initially hired as the Academy Director of Coaching in 2007, Jacobs moved into the first-team assistant role two years later.

Passionate about all aspects of elite player development, sports performance and football management, he has put this knowledge into practice at multiple levels of the professional pyramid with great success.

His ability to lead, while inspiring players to perform to their maximum potential has resulted in two US National Championships (MLS, USL) and another finals appearance (USL). He is driven by the unending quest to win matches playing dominant football, while holistically nurturing players along the professional player pathway. This feeds his passion and commitment to the education of football players wherever he has worked.

In addition to his knowledge of the United States and CONCACAF region, Brett worked full time at Wimbledon Football Club in London from 2002-2004, helping to groom young talent in the English Premier League Academy programme. He was also the Director of Coaching at the City School of London during this time.

He is currently applying for completion of his UEFA A License through the KNVB, and as such has been immersed in both the Dutch and Spanish youth development methodologies.

Jacobs will be working closely with Head of Football Operations, Joaquin Rodriguez, to define, articulate, and implement the Europa Point FC Pathway, which will allow the players that come through our system to grow as players and young men.

He will also have a hand in shaping EPFC’s player recruitment policies.

Joaquin Rodriguez, Europa Point FC’s Head of Football Operations, stated: “We are really looking forward to having Brett as part of the team.

"He is very passionate on everything he does and we believe he is going to be a big asset for us.

"We are confident on the work that Brett will develop with our young players and believe that he will prove us right."

“We are thrilled to be working with Brett as we continue the evolution of Europa Point FC,“ added Europa Point FC Chairman, Corey Woolfolk. “Brett brings with him both the passion for player development and the experience to implement the latest methodologies.

"There are few guys out there with the energy, experience and hunger to try new things. His global experience will be pivotal in making sure our players are developing the accelerated rate we expect.”

The new man is looking forward to playing his part in our on-going development both on and off-the-field.

“I feel privileged to have this rare opportunity and I’m excited to be working back in Europe again," he said. "The game is moving forward at an incredible pace and players need guidance on and off the pitch now more than ever.

"For me the ultimate reward is seeing a young player grow as a person who can manage all the complicated aspects of life to become a professional player and responsible adult.

"It’s not an easy process. What drew me most to the Europa Point FC project aside from the unique geographical location was sharing this passion and vision of holistic human development with the ownership group and Joaquin.

"European football is the dream of any player and coach. The budding football landscape in Gibraltar is amazing and I think Spain have developed some of the best teams and players over the last 20 years. Throw in the influence of Africa and Portugal and I can’t imagine a more diverse dichotomy of the game in such a small area."

In his new role, Jacobs will be travelling to Gibraltar regularly, ensuring a professional environment is installed in an efficient manner.

We welcome him to the club.
