THE 2017/18 season finally gets underway for us today as we take on Bruno’s Magpies in what is sure to be a challenging opening game (kick-off 6.15pm).
We will have a number of new faces on show, one such will be exciting wide-man, Ben Wilks, who has previous experience of playing in England and latterly the USA.
“I am really looking forward to the season getting started,” said the 25 year-old. “We have put together a really talented squad. Everyone gets on with each other and we have really started to click as the weeks have gone on.
“I believe that we can have a good season. There are a lot of teams who have strengthened over the summer and I am expecting there to be four or five teams – including us – challenging for the Title.
“Every game will count if we are going to achieve our objective of making an immediate return to the Premier Division.”
Wilks started his career as part of the youth set-up at Bromley before moving on to Leatherhead and Badshot Lea. It was from there that he moved over to America in 2012, firstly with Tennessee Wesleyan College and then Chicago Inferno and Knoxville Force.
“As a winger, my main strengths are my speed and dribbling ability,” he continued. “I like running at defenders and getting crosses into the box.
“Hopefully I will be able to showcase what I am capable of here. My main aim is to establish myself in the starting 11 on a regular basis and play to a consistently high standard.
“I am looking forward to the challenge that this League will provide to me and I’d like to think that I can get into double figures in goals scored and assists.”
