A Stepping Stone Club

EUROPA Point slipped to our first League defeat of the season at the hands of Bruno’s Magpies.
We started the game on top, seeing more of the early ball but unable to make our possession count.
It was our opponents that had the first sight of goal as they dragged an effort just wide before a controversial offside halted their progress as they looked to edge in front.
A free-kick in a dangerous position from Alexis went just wide as we started to find our way back into the game after a period of scrappy play.
The game was in need of a spark from somewhere as we approached the interval. Alvaro did well to deny our opponents with a smart stop following some neat football.
Our defence was finally breached soon afterwards when Pinto seized upon the ball before slotting home.
Worse was to follow on the stroke of half-time as some pressure from Bruno’s ended with Rory finding space to tuck the ball home beyond the reach of Alvaro.
Trailing by two goals at the break, it gave us a difficult task for the second period and the early exchanges saw neither team able to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
Indeed we were not being allowed to get into any rhythm or play with any fluidity on what was becoming a frustrating evening.
Our opponents had the chance to further extend their lead from the penalty spot, however, they failed to convert and it gave us a glimmer of hope as the clock ticked down.
A spell of pressure saw us cause problems from a corner as the Bruno’s’ back-line managed to scramble clear and then a free-kick in a promising position went bagging as our opponents found themselves reduced to ten men as goalscorer Pinto saw red.
There was just no way through and in the end it proved to be a bad day at the office, but we will be ready to go again in the next game.
